One week in Pau.

At the beginning of our journey around Europe we knew Pau was really just a short trip south of Paris (800 km) but to follow the weather and see the most of Europe at its best we had to travel north in the Spring time and so it was a long and very eventful journey to eventually arrive in Pau and spend time with Paul’s brother David and his family Sandra, William and Guillaume.  Charlotte and Maisy were counting down the days and then the hours before seeing their cousins that they hadn’t seen for 6 years.
Charlotte, Maisy, William and Guillaume caught up on years of skateboarding, bike riding, tree climbing, running around and hanging out. They never had a moment apart and never tired of each other’s company. It was a magical week for the girls, just staying still, speaking and hearing English, and playing with other kids.
The adults had equally a good time catching up and enjoying the beauty of Pau together. Paul and I were so impressed with the town and all it had to offer. Having your own private, English speaking tour guide helps enormously and everyday was spent with a little exploring and lots of good food courtesy of David and the local market.

From Pau we had a few day trips. One day we spent roaming the countryside in the Pyrenees. Driving through timeworn villages and walking the lush green valleys of the lower mountains.

Another day we spent visiting Lourdes. Walking through the town, the Rosary Basilica and the grotto where the young Bernedette was visited 18 times by the Virgin Mary in 1858.

Merci beaucoup Sandra et David.
Vous nous gâter avec gentillesse.
